About Alevism

A mystical tradition found mainly in Turkey, honoring Ali and the Twelve Imams and the saint Haji Bektash Veli. Alevis gather for the cem ceremony in a cemevi, with music and the semah ritual dance, rather than in mosques. Teaching is carried through poetry and song. Alevis form a large minority in Turkey.
