About Armenian Apostolic Church
Armenia is traditionally regarded as the first nation to adopt Christianity as a state religion, through the preaching of Gregory the Illuminator. The church is centered at Etchmiadzin. Mesrop Mashtots created the Armenian alphabet partly to translate the Bible. It sustained Armenian identity across centuries of foreign rule and diaspora.
