A revival movement begun within the Church of England by John and Charles Wesley. Stresses personal holiness, disciplined spiritual practice, and social outreach. Charles Wesley wrote thousands of hymns. Methodists separated into their own churches after John Wesley died and spread widely through America, Africa, and Asia.
