About Ibadi Islam
A distinct branch of Islam separate from Sunni and Shia, which emerged in Basra in the decades after the death of Muhammad. Ibadis are the majority in Oman, where the faith has long shaped governance. Smaller communities live in Zanzibar, the Mzab valley of Algeria, and Djerba in Tunisia.
