A spiritual revival movement founded by the Baal Shem Tov in Podolia in Eastern Europe. Hasidism stresses joyful worship, prayer, and devotion to a rebbe, a spiritual leader. Major dynasties include Chabad, Satmar, and Ger. Communities are concentrated in Israel, New York, and other diaspora centers.
