A Jewish movement that accepts only the Hebrew Bible as authoritative and does not recognize the rabbinic Oral Law. Karaites interpret scripture directly. Historic communities lived in Egypt, Crimea, Lithuania, and the Middle East. Most Karaites today live in Israel.
